Maybe this is an Eeyore-type character? It dresses in drab colors because it thinks life is just one bad thing after another. It's depressive nature causes people around him to feel bad and start to feel a bit depressed too, but it doesn't usually mean to bring others down. It's just telling it like it is.

I like that. It makes the braid seem like a half-hearted attempt to seem not so depressed, for everyone else's sake.

He should even have Eeyore's monotone droning.
"Hello... Yes, it's a beautiful day. Sure hope the weather doesn't go bad all of a sudden. If it did, though, I suppose we would be ready for the disappointment of a good day gone sour."

Whenever I see this character, I can't help but think "But seriously, Hinata, how did you get out of Super Dangan Ronpa 2? And when did you trade in your ahoge for a braid??"
In all seriousness, though, I'd agree that they look rather melancholy. But perhaps in such a way that they do their best not subject others to it unwillingly. For example, if someone finds them lost in thought ad ask what they're thinking, they'd first warn the person that it's not cheerful and then have to be reassured before confiding in them that they were thinking over the futility of trying to o things and of existence in general.
Since most people usually avoid them after that, they usually talk to the plants they raise and take care of. Surprisingly, monotonous depressing diatribes seem to be really good at helping them grow.

If I had to pick a name for this character, I'd name her Serephyn, I don't know it just seems like a very nature-y name

I always assumed this character was a male, actually.
