I already posted it on Tumblr, but I figured I'd post it here, too.
------
The field was vast and completely void of anything but her. She walked with a steady rythym as a lazy breeze swung itself in circles around her. A few steps forward and she was at the edge of an impossible cliff. She stopped, closing her eye and breathing in slowly. Zero had always known what she had made, but that doesn't make looking at it any easier.
She open her eye and dared a look into the bottomless drop below. As she stared, the smaller beings below her came into focus. Her children, her creations, all one thousand of them. Most went about their lives, happily and unbothered. Some, however, had taken a darker turn.
Darkness was inevitable. It always has been, with all creatures. She knew that when she chose her path. She could've lived alone. She could've stayed the only one for the rest of time. But she was selfish. She needed to know that something else was breathing out there.
She stared deeper down into the cavern, down at the world she had created, and she could see a dark future. The past that was always doomed to be repeated. They would destroy themselves, just as her people had done so long ago. They would know the greatest pains that any creature can.
She took one step back, inhaling sharply and closing her eye once again. She could see it all, feel it all. Her sixth sense showed her the agony that was to come.
She was far too selfish.
And now they have to pay for it.
